On the evening of July 25 at 21:30, as a typhoon approached, Dongfang Electric’s independently developed 18 MW offshore wind turbine, the largest in the world, achieved full power operation at the Guangdong Coastal Wind Power Testing Base, once again setting a global record in wind turbine operation!
With each rotation, this powerful turbine generates nearly 40 kWh of electricity—enough to meet the daily electricity needs of six households!
Annually, a single turbine can produce 72 million kWh of clean electricity, saving over 22,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 59,000 tons. To absorb this amount of carbon, at least 3.22 million trees would need a year of growth.
The turbine’s blade tips reach a height of up to 274 meters. If scaled to fit a standard track, even the world’s fastest runner would need over 26 seconds to cover the distance from one end to the other!
The full-power operation of this 18 MW wind turbine marks a technological milestone in the wind power industry. It reflects Dongfang Wind Power’s relentless pursuit of excellence and commitment to progress, and it exemplifies Dongfang Electric's mission to “Empower the World with Green Energy.” Dongfang Wind Power illuminates countless homes on this vibrant land!
